HAWG-TIDE Charter Fishing Traverse City Michigan

Lake Michigan Sport Fishing Charters for King Salmon, Steelhead & Lake Trout!

Browsing Posts in Fishing Reports/Blog

Salmon, lake trout and steelhead have continued to be caught of the shores of Frankfort.  Adult king salmon began to show up in early May and have never left.  Average sizes have been in the 15-20 pound range.  Fishing has bee good anywhere from the “Herring Hole” to the south all the way up to “6 Mile Hole” in the north.  Early morning (before sun up) fishing the 100 foot drop-offs are almost guaranteed success. The new Stinger “UV” spoon patterns have been working awesome.  Also try Rapture fly meat rigs in the Red Pepper and Hypnotist colors on divers. Lake trout up to 20 pounds (like this one) are the bonus fish when trolling for kings. We should see an incredible August in Frankfort.  Book your charter trip today! Capt. Andy 231-218-2379

We have been trolling the shallows in and around the port of Frankfort all month.  Browns, lakers and yesterday nice kings are being caught. Straight mono to 3 colors of leadcore have been the ticket.  Mostly using Stinger spoons,  although body baits have taken a few browns early. Should be a great summer.  Lots of bait!

Trout fishing in the Grand Traverse Bays has been very good this month. Trolling and jigging are both excellent ways to produce lakers.  It seems that 120-150 fow are holding the most fish,  although we did try trolling in shallow water (15-30′) and that did work as well.  So no matter where or how you fish you should be able to find some active fish.

Frankfort Fishing Report:

Great weather and steady catches off of Frankfort so far this July!!!

Solid catches of trout and salmon are being caught the last two weeks off of Frankfort. Most all of our charters are bringing home 10-15 fish per trip. VERY nice size trout are still being caught on “The Bank” north of the pierheads. Our best fishing has been starting in 100 fow and working out to 150 later in the morning. Lakers are coming tight on the bottom using cowbells and dodgers. Kings have been mixed in with the trout and being caught with Rapture Flies and Stinger mag spoons 65-90 down. Several King Salmon this July have topped 20 plus pounds! A few boats have had success offshore for steelhead. Book your charter trip today!

Frankfort Fishing Report:

VERY nice catches of king salmon are starting to come into Frankfort. One group came in with a 23 pounder!  Most catches have been from straight out and to the south to the Herring Hole. 90-150 fow.  Downriggers 70-90 feet down with flashers/flies and leadcores/copper lines with spoons.  10 color to 300 copper range have all been good.

Traverse City Fishing Report:

Fished the GTASFA weekly Fishing League last night in West GT Bay.  We finished 1st place with a 6 pound lake trout.  It was caught trolling a 200 copper rig with a Stinger Modified Blue Dolphin spoon (see picture). Trout fishing in both GT Bays have been awesome this spring. Most all our fish have been caught in 40-70 fow.

Book your charter trip today!  Prime dates are starting to fill up.

Traverse City Fishing Report

We have been jigging up Lake Trout in West Grand Traverse Bay.  Now this is fun! This trout was 32 inches long and 10 pounds!  Fish have been found anywhere from 110 to 170 fow right on the bottom.  Our set-ups have been a 6′ medium action rods with a spinning reel loaded with Power Pro line. The business end is a “Elk Rapids S” vertical jig.  No live bait needed.

Frankfort Fishing Report 10/12/10:

Fished out of Frankfort and boated 7 fish for about 12-13 bites.  Steelhead and small kings were caught.  The best action was in about 65-95 fow and just north of the harbor in front of “The Saddle”. All spoons were used on 14 rods.  Best set-up was smaller spoons on 3 color leadcore on planer boards.  Downriggers down no deeper that 45 also had bites.

Traverse City Fishing Report: 9/14/10
Both bays in Traverse City are producing kings.  We have been fishing on East Bay and catching some real nice fish.  Early morning bites have been coming in 20-65 fow. Smaller lead cores from 1 to 5 colors pulling glow plugs have been working until the sun comes up.  Move to deeper water after that and sink your gear.  Downriggers down 90-100 and divers out 200-250 seem to be getting the bites later in the morning. The best king fishing is yet to come!
Get out your small boat and try jigging for whitefish and lakers.  Good catches are starting to show up.  We fished the other morning in 100-115 fow and did get into a few.

Frankfort Fishing Report 9/8/10:
King and coho salmon have been coming from East Platte Bay!  We took the past few groups up to the bay for some pretty good fishing.  Best baits were plugs on 5 to 15 colors of lead core.  Stinger NBK and Dolphin pattern mag spoons on riggers 45-75 down.  Temp has been around 50 feet. The south bank has been best but watch out for the tribal trap net buoy lines.  It appears that there are about 4-5 different net sets in the bay.

Traverse City Fishing Report 9/8/10:
East Grand Traverse Bay has had very good catches of kings and lake trout.  We have been fishing the south bank in about 100-120 fow.  Also the “Yuba” bank has been good. Best bites have definitely been first and last light. Plugs on copper lines out 350 to 500 and also meat rigs on wire divers out 200-250.
West Grand Traverse Bay has also been catching good numbers of salmon.  Troll the “Hole” early in the morning or get away from the boat traffic by fishing the “Red 8″ buoy to the north.

Frankfort Fishing Report 8/22/10:
“BIG” kings have been getting caught out of Frankfort this past weekend. We have been fishing shallower water (finally!). Anywhere from 50-90 fow.  Kings have been coming on riggers with plugs 50-80 down and on divers with meat rigs 123-150 out.  These three 18 pounders were caught just south of the harbor in 85 fow on Sunday. Benzy Frenzy starts Friday. Good luck to all teams!

Traverse City Fishing Report 8/22/10:

East Grand Traverse Bay- Kings are moving into the bays.  Anywhere from  90-150 fow.  Stinger magnum glow spoons in the morning have been very productive.  Also still catching unlimited amounts of nice size lake trout.  Traverse City Salmon Classic starts Friday the 3rd.
